Rain limits visibility and can hide potholes or standing water. Check wipers, lights, and tires before departure. When rain begins, slow down and leave more room for braking.
Indonesia’s traffic police explain that aquaplaning occurs when water separates a tire from the road. The risk rises with speed. Avoid sudden maneuvers through puddles and do not drive into water when its depth or the road beneath it is unknown.
If rain becomes too heavy to see the road clearly, find a safe place to stop. Avoid stopping in a traffic lane or on a toll-road shoulder except in an emergency. Continue when visibility and road conditions improve.
